We offer two (2) type of camping packages, inclusive of all the camping equipment you need such as sleeping mattresses, sleeping bags, cooking gear and more as per below description. You can also customize your package by adding extra items or equipment based on your preferences and needs like a solar powerbank, towels, bbq and more. You can add these to your booking when you make your selection.

We will deliver the Package to you in Auckland or Christchurch, and we will pick it up in Auckland or Christchurch.
We will deliver and pick up at your hostel/ hotel, your home, AirBnB, Park & Ride or at Auckland Airport or Christchurch Airport. In fact, this will offer you a customer experience like no other! And because we have no warehouses at the airport, we can keep prices low.
In addition to the Airport locations, we often meet at Constellation Park & Ride (if you travel north of Auckland), or Rolleston (if you travel south from Christchurch)
Pick-up and drop-off at Auckland Airport
Entry from George Bolt Memorial Drive, follow the pink The Wait Zone signage. There is a car park where one of our team will wait for you. We will park next to each other and handover the complete camping package.

The Christchurch Airport new Wait Zone is just 500 metres from the airport. Next to the roundabout, follow the blue signage. There is a car park where one of our team will wait for you. We will park next to each other and handover the complete camping package.

Please note that if you want a delivery or pick up at or outside the borders of our service area (as per below pictures) we will ask for an additional delivery and pick up fee. For example, Takanini, East Auckland, the Waitakere Ranges and West Auckland, ...), ...
Renting from Rent-A-Tent is easy! Simply browse our website and proceed to our 'Our Packages'. Choose your package, select your location and check availability with our live calendar.
You can choose to have the quote emailed to you, or proceed to book. You will receive an email from our customer team within 24 hours with a payment link.
Our 1 and 2 person Essential package fits in most small cars, but might have to get the back seat pulled down depending on the size of your luggages (suitcases, backpacks).
Our 2 person Premium package does not fit in small cars, and requires a station wagon or SUV.
Our 3 person Premium package requires a large SUV or people mover.

We have not experienced issues with fitting the gear in the back of the cars when we delivered the packages. However, some of our customers were surprised about the size of the gear. Please note that we offer a car rental discount with Ezi car rentals (accessible from our homepage).

Our rental period is minimum 4 days. That is to say that the minimum payment we charge is equal to 4 days rental. The equipment can however, of course, be returned earlier at your own convenience.
A day = calendar day.
Premium package tent
The dimensions are roughly 3 meters wide and 4 meters long and the tent is 2.1 meters high at the highest point, then sloping down in the sleeping area. Exact dimensions of the tent provided below.
The tent is actually a 4 person tent but our experience tells us that you also need some room for your luggage and room to change & move around, hence we have chosen for the 2 or 3 persons sleeping arrangement.
The tent also comes with:
- a ground cover sheet (not shown in the technical picture below) that will cover the whole area (sleeping, living and wallset area).
- a wall set (not shown in the technical picture below) that you can zip on the front and you can close up.
- ventilation and skylights to enjoy both light coming in and fresh air.
Essential package tent
The dimensions are 2.4 meters long and 2.1 meters wide and the tent is 1.3 meters high at the highest point. Exact dimensions of the tent provided below.
The tent is actually a 3 person tent but our experience tells us that you also need some room for your luggage and room to change & move around, hence we have chosen for the 1 or 2 persons sleeping arrangement.
When you travel from Auckland to Christchurch, or the other way around, we charge $200 to cover the courier fees. We believe this is a fair price as we're not making any money out of it... just to keep NZ traveling affordable!
Once you have returned the gear clean, complete and in good state we will check the equipment and refund you the bond as soon as possible. This depends on the weather and how many customers we have to check their packages.
We will use the same credit card that was used for the initial payment to refund you the bond.

A popular way to travel around New Zealand is with a campervan. However, these are often very expensive. Making New Zealand traveling affordable again is one of our key values. We want to change how tourists as well as New Zealanders travel and make our country accessible & affordable for everyone.
We do not charge a high or low season price. Every day is the same price with us.
It is not unusual to pay $320 NZD per day for a campervan during the summer season (excluding often a per day excess cover anywhere around ~$40 NZD per day).
So, if you are going for a 4-week road trip (28 days), you will likely pay >$10,000 for a campervan. With our 2 person Premium package you will only pay $2,240 for 28 days and save >$7,500 NZD.
If you come from overseas and have to rent a car, you can get a car for $80 a day (make sure you book well in advance to secure a good price). Compared to a campervan, you will then save >$4,000 NZD.

At this stage, Rent-A-Tent only offers the full package with add-ons available. This is for peace of mind and so you can start your adventure right away.
At the moment there is no insurance option available. However, when you book with us we will charge $300 NZD bond that you will get back once the package has been picked up, all rented items are returned and found in clean and good condition. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions.
Our tents are waterproof!
Generally speaking, tents have a waterproof rating ranging between 800 mm and 10,000 mm. The higher the number the better. The premium tent has an 6,000 mm rating which is really really good! Our essential tent has a 1,500 mm rating which is also really good!
Use the ground sheet that comes with the premium packages to keep even dryer and to keep the tent in good condition.
On top of that, the premium tents have enough living space to enjoy the adventure and listen to the calm sounds of rain on the tent...
Our tent and equipment is not older than 2 year. Our inventory consists of well-maintained and regularly updated equipment. We ensure that all equipment provided is in excellent condition and fully functional for your use.
When you are back at your campsite, we recommend opening the tent so that the ventilation system can cool the tent down (windows with mesh, awning and special ventilation holes). Easy!
Upon delivery to you, carefully inspect the equipment to ensure it's in good condition. Notify us immediately if you notice any issues to avoid liability concerns upon return.
The lessee is responsible for any damage or loss of the rented equipment during the rental period. We assess damages based on our rates and fees and may require reimbursement. Check our Terms and Conditions for more info.
Accidents happen! In case of accidental damage to the rented equipment, please inform us immediately. Damages beyond normal wear and tear may incur repair or replacement charges based on our rates and fees.
Our packages come with "picture-and-word instructions". Both our essential and premium package do not require poles to be assembled to set up.
The essential tent is an 'instant up' tent with the poles already attached to the tent (our timed set up time was 37 seconds! Can you beat that...!?).
The premium tent has 3 inflatable poles that you pump up by a manual pump - one like you have for your bicycle. Once pumped up, the tent 'pops up' and all is completed within minutes!
If you're unsure, our staff can offer guidance on how to set up and pack up the tents properly.
We recommend setting up equipment in designated camping areas or places where camping is permitted. Please adhere to local regulations and obtain necessary permissions for camping in specific locations.
Part of our vision is to make New Zealand travel affordable again, and so our prices are already discounted at the same prices all year-round. We may offer discounts for extended rental periods or larger group bookings. Please reach out to our customer support team to discuss specific discounts or offers available.

When you rent with us, we will provide you with our phone number so that you can call us when you need us during your camping trip.
Unlike New Zealand's neighbours, Australia, there are no animals out here that are out to kill you. While New Zealand wildlife is quite safe, there is, however, three types of spider that can hurt if they bite (which is a rare occurrence): the white-tailed spider, redback spider and the katipo spider.
Instead of worrying how to stay safe, you can worry about what's for dinner instead!
From its northern tip to its southern tip, the country of New Zealand is approximately 1,600 kilometres (1,000 miles) in length. The length is about 1,000 miles in total. It is about 220 miles at the widest point. At one point, it is only 2 or 3 kilometers wide. While traveling, you really don’t want to do more then 250-300 kilometres a day.
