This small car needs to have the back seats down as shown in picture 5. Hatchback (Toyota Corolla) photo taken from the front seat looking to the back. You can see the back seats are down and there is still sufficient space left.
  • What are your rental durations?
Our rental period is minimum 2 days. That is to say that the minimum payment we charge for any of our equipment is equal to 2 days rental. The equipment can however, of course, be returned earlier at your own convenience. A day = 24 hours and starts counting from the time that you receive your package. For example: - If you receive your Package on a Friday at 14:00 and have booked for 3 days you will have to return your Package on Monday at 14:00. - If you receive your Package on a Monday at 14:00 and have booked for 7 days, you will have to return your Package on Monday at 14:00.
  • How much do you charge for one-way travel?
When you travel from Auckland to Christchurch, or the other way around, we charge $150 to cover the courier fees. We believe this is a fair price as we're not making any money out of it... just to keep NZ traveling affordable!
  • How affordable are you?
A popular way to travel around New Zealand is with a campervan. However, these are often expensive. Making New Zealand traveling affordable again is one of our key values. We want to change how tourists as well as New Zealanders travel and make our country accessible & affordable for everyone. It is not unusual to pay $320 NZD per day for a campervan during the summer season (excluding often a per day excess cover anywhere around ~$40 NZD per day). So, if you are going for a 4-week road trip (28 days), you will save $7,140 NZD if you choose Rent-A-Tent. If you come from overseas and have to rent a car, you can get a car for $80 a day (make sure you book well in advance to secure a good price). Compared to a campervan, you will then save $4,900 NZD.
  • Can I go freedom camping with Rent-A-Tent?
We recommend checking local regulations and guidelines for camping restrictions and permissions in specific locations, as well as the latest news on freedom camping:
  • Can I hire the tent without the other camping equipment?
At this stage, Rent-A-Tent only offers the full package with add-ons available. This is for peace of mind and so you can start your adventure right away.
  • Is insurance available?
At the moment there is no insurance option available. However, when you book with us we will charge $300 NZD bond that you will get back once the package has been picked up and found in good condition. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions on the booking enquiry page.
  • How old is the tent and the camping equipment?
Our tent and equipment is not older than 1 year. Our inventory consists of well-maintained and regularly updated equipment. We ensure that all equipment provided is in excellent condition and fully functional for your use.
  • What if it rains?
Our tents are waterproof! Generally speaking, tents have a waterproof rating ranging between 800 mm and 10,000 mm. The higher the number the better. The tent we offer for rent has an 8,000 mm rating which is really really good! Use the ground sheet to keep even dryer and use the roof cover to keep the tent in good condition. On top of that, the tents have enough living space to enjoy the adventure and listen to the calm sounds of rain on the tent.
  • What if the sun shines?
When you are back at your campsite, we recommend opening the tent so that the ventilation system can cool the tent down (windows with mesh, awning and special ventilation holes near the sleeping part). Easy! Using the extra roof cover sheet will keep the tent cooler during the day and also give it more durability.
  • Do I need to have prior camping experience?
No prior camping experience is necessary! Our team is here to guide you through the rental process and offer advice on using the equipment. The inflatable tent makes camping easy for everyone! We provide instructions and assistance to ensure a comfortable camping experience.
  • How do I handle the equipment upon receiving it?
Upon delivery to you, carefully inspect the equipment to ensure it's in good condition. Notify us immediately if you notice any issues to avoid liability concerns upon return.
  • What happens if there is damage or loss to the rented equipment?
The lessee is responsible for any damage or loss of the rented equipment during the rental period. We assess damages based on our rates and fees and may require reimbursement. Check put our Terms and Conditions on our booking enquiry page.
  • What if I break something?
Accidents happen! In case of accidental damage to the rented equipment, please inform us immediately. Damages beyond normal wear and tear may incur repair or replacement charges based on our rates and fees.
  • How do I pitch the tent?
Lay down the ground sheet, take the tent out of the bag and simply pump air in the inflatable air frame! No sticks needed to make your camping experience a breeze. Detailed pitching instructions are provided along with the rented equipment. If you're unsure, our staff can offer guidance on how to set up and dismantle the tent properly.
  • What are the tent dimensions & specifications?
The dimensions are roughly 3 meters wide and 4 meters long and the tent is 2.1 meters high at the highest point, then sloping down in the sleeping area. There are pictures in our gallery outlining the exact dimensions of the tent, also provided below. The tent is actually a 4 person tent but our expierence tells us that you also need some room for your luggage and room to change & move around, Hence we have chosen for the 2 persons sleeping arrangement. The tent also comes with: - a ground cover sheet (not shown in the pictures) that will cover the area just outside the sleeping area. - a roof cover that will provide extra protection against rain and sun to keep the tent in excellent condition. - ventilation and skylights to enjoy both light coming in and fresh air.
  • Are there any specific restrictions on where I can set up the tent?
We recommend setting up equipment in designated camping areas or places where camping is permitted. Please adhere to local regulations and obtain necessary permissions for camping in specific locations.
  • Do you offer discounts for longer rental periods or larger group bookings?
Part of our vision is to make New Zealand travel affordable again, and so our prizes are already discounted at $80 a day year-round. We may offer discounts for extended rental periods or larger group bookings. Please reach out to our customer support team to discuss specific discounts or offers available.
  • What is your customer support availability?
Our customer support team is available during week & weekend hours via email to assist with any inquiries, concerns, or support needed. We aim to respond as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours. When you rent with us, we will provide you with our phone number so that you can call us when you need us during your camping trip.
  • Where can I find the Rent-A-Tent terms and conditions?
You can find the Terms and Conditions on the Booking Enquiry page.
  • Is there dangerous wildlife in New Zealand?
Unlike New Zealand's neighbours, Australia, there are no animals out here that are out to kill you. While New Zealand wildlife is quite safe, there is, however, three types of spider that can hurt if they bite (which is a rare occurrence): the white-tailed spider, redback spider and the katipo spider. Instead of worrying how to stay safe, you can worry about what's for dinner instead!
  • Can I cancel my booking?
Yes, bookings can be cancelled as per our cancellation policy. Refer to the policy for details on refund amounts based on the notice period provided. Submit cancellation requests in writing via email directly. You can find the policy within our Terms & Conditions on the Booking Enquiry page.
  • Can I change my booking?
Yes, modifications to bookings are possible depending on availability. Please reach out to our customer support team at the earliest convenience to discuss any changes you'd like to make.
  • Can I extend my booking period?
Yes, rental extensions are possible subject to availability. Contact us as soon as possible to inquire about extending your rental duration.
  • What happens if I am not able to have the equipment picked up in time at the end of the rental period?
There is no penalty fee for late returns, however, you will simply be charged for the additional rental period according to our regular prices. Please inform us as soon as possible so we have an idea of when to expect you back and ensure availability for others.
  • Can I make a last-minute booking?
Last-minute bookings are subject to availability. We recommend making reservations in advance to ensure equipment availability, especially during peak seasons. To secure your camping equipment reservation through our website, please ensure booking at least 72 hours before your rental period begins. If this timeframe doesn't suit your needs, kindly reach out to us via phone or email, and we'll work together to accommodate your request. Generally speaking the camping season is from October to March, so we recommend booking equipment well in advance to ensure availability. Contact us as early as possible to secure your reservation.
  • How can I pay for my booking?
Once you have made your booking enquiry and we have confirmed your booking, payment details will be send to you by e-mail.
  • If I opt for a bank transfer, what's the time frame to complete the payment after my booking is confirmed?
For bank transfers, the payment must be transferred within 24 hours of the booking confirmation to guarantee your booking.
  • Are there any required deposits or additional charges?
There are no requirements for a security deposit, and we do not impose any extra fees. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions for more information with regards to any loss or damage to the camping equipment you have rented from us.
